The electrical component is utilized during vehicle launch and when shifting gears, creating smooth acceleration, but not impacting fuel efficiency. eTorque also has integrated stop-start functionality. If the vehicle is at a stop for a period of time, the engine will shut off, but will quickly send 90 lb.-ft. of torque to the crankshaft when acceleration begins again. The stop-start function is integrated to reduce fuel consumption while the vehicle is idling, for example, while stuck in traffic.
eTorque technology also recharges the battery pack during deceleration and braking, so that the battery and engine are always working at full capacity. To further ensure peace of mind and the battery’s charge state, the battery pack includes a 3-kilowatt DC-to-DC converter. This means that you can be sure that you won’t have to worry about battery and overall eTorque malfunction. eTorque also improves Ram 1500’s engine stop-start response time – more than twice as fast as any other stop-start system, in fact. This quick response time ensures that you won’t experience prolonged lagging during vehicle takeoff.
