Get to Know the All-New 2020 Jeep Gladiator

2020 Jeep Gladiator

For people whose lifestyle mostly focuses on urban activities and pursuits, a traditional car serves their needs. But if you go off-road, where the asphalt ends and the forests, dunes, and hills begin, you need a lot more. Jeep has always been one of the most reliable multi-terrain vehicle brands. Now, with the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, the iconic company has taken its game to the next level in terms of performance, luxury, and technology.

Here’s what you’ll get with a 2020 Jeep Gladiator.

A History of Reliability

The Jeep Gladiator was one of the first post-war vehicles offered to civilians when it came out in 1962 driving down the streets of the USA and Canada. The Gladiator, also known during its initial run as the J-Series, has the unique distinction of being built on the same reliable automobile platform for 26 years.

The J-Series combined the need for a pick-up truck’s carrying capacity with the durability and off-road readiness of a military Jeep. It was a full-size pick-up truck, based on the design of the large Jeep SJ series or Wagoneer. Now, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is finally back in production, but it comes with a 21st-century update to specs and features.

A New Look, Inside and Out

This is the first time that the Gladiator has put in an appearance in 30 years, so it’s no surprise that the Jeep Gladiator sports an all-new exterior and interior design. There’s plenty of storage available under the rear seats, as well as in the glove box and centre console. A 7” full-colour display for the driver is customizable to show desired information on your dashboard. You’ll also find the latest conveniences on a separate central infotainment screen.

On the outside, the Jeep Gladiator features a fold-down windshield if you want to feel the wind in your face. Plus, it’s the only pick-up on the market that gives you various options like removing the roof and even the doors. Nothing separates you from the great outdoors in this vehicle.

Powertrain and Trim Levels

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is available in Canada at three trim levels:

  • The Sports S
  • The Overland
  • The Rubicon

All trims of the 2020 Gladiator come with a 3.6L Pentastar VVT V6 Engine with an auto start-stop and a standard 6-speed manual transmission. There’s an available option to switch to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Technology and Safety Features

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator comes with modern technology like a weatherproof push-button start, so you’re always ready to go, even with the interior exposed and the rain coming down. An 8.4” central touchscreen comes complete with navigation and multimedia features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

For safer driving, the Jeep Gladiator specs include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection, and forward-collision warning with active braking. There’s also adaptive cruise control to adjust to other vehicles on the road with you, but you retain the fuel efficiency benefits of cruise control. For people who buy the Rubicon trim, a forward-facing off-road camera is included for an additional perspective that shows you what’s on the ground.

Comparing Jeep Wrangler vs. Jeep Gladiator

The biggest difference when comparing the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator is the structure. The Gladiator is a pick-up truck, so it has a bed for carrying cargo. The Jeep Wrangler does not. This makes a huge difference in the kind of driving and driver the vehicles appeal to. Those who want some cargo-carrying capacity will go with the Gladiator while those who don’t need it can opt for the Wrangler.

The bed also changes the dimensions of the Gladiator versus the Wrangler. The Gladiator is, unsurprisingly, the longer vehicle. In addition to the cargo capacity from the bed, it’s also got extra storage underneath the rear seats, which is something the Wrangler lacks.

There’s also a difference in available engines. The Wrangler has a few different engine options, with a 2.0L Turbo-Charged 4-Cylinder engine or a 3.6L Pentastar VVT V6 Engine. The Gladiator’s only option is the more powerful 3.6L Pentastar VVT V6 Engine across all trims.
